WiFi on Wheels

We've seen things similar. At large events, games, and lectures, we often find cell phone companies competing for the best signal and service for the people attending. Comcast is following suit by bringing WiFi to the Democratic National Convention! With six access points, a large tower is mounted to the top of a van, offering WiFi to those at the event! It will be free for those who are already subscribed to Comcast and its TV, and others can buy WiFi for hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly rates. WiFi on wheels! That's an advancement!

Virtual Reality with Oculus Rift and Sword Art Online

Virtual Reality (VR) is something I have always dreamed of using. I get so excited seeing all of the different breakthroughs, and am excited when VR is "complete." There is one show that really got me thinking about all of the applications of VR, and how far it could go. Sword Art Online, a Japanese anime created by Reki Kawahara, was created with this concept in mind. They are currently creating a similar game for the Oculus system due to its advanced applications. It can track the eye, senses movement, and can see your actual surroundings as you travel around in the virtual world. With more add on pieces of equipment, the system can sense your hand movements and voice, etc.
In the world of Sword Art Online, they hypothesize that it is possible to be totally immersed in virtual reality. The characters use the "nerve gear" as their advanced technology that intercepts the signals the brain gives for movement and sends signals to the brain to indicate taste, touch, and physical components such as weight. With this being said, the person is stationary as they maneuver in the virtual world, and when the program is shut off, they are once again able to move. I believe this is possible, it would just take extensive resources and dedication. You would have to track brain waves of multiple subjects to compile data for various situations in order to write a complex enough system to feign a world with all of its senses. This new technology coming out is only the beginning!

Holo-lens: Have your own virtual world interact with your surroundings!

You sit down and watch Marvel's the Avengers and wonder how Tony Stark made a hologram computer to where he can hold and manipulate the data in the computer. It seems impossible, but Microsoft is on its way to figuring it all out. Just last year, Microsoft showed off their new holographic computer to the public, and demonstrated what all it could do. You put on the component "holo-lens" and 3D options appear in your view. The glasses can see exactly where you are looking, so the screen and options are always in the right place, and the cursor tracks with you in mid air. Microsoft made a corresponding program, holostudio, where you can create an object, and actually send it to a 3D printer to create what you just made. The future is here, and Microsoft is helping pave the way!

Apple App to Become an Organ Donor

Technology is in our everyday lives, and Apple is creating an I Phone App to connect people on a deeper level. Later this year they are planning on releasing a new capability through a Health App to allow people to become organ donors through the touch of a button (or screen in this case). This venture is to raise awareness of those in need of these resources, and encourage the population to become organ, eye, and tissue donors.
